Workshops for Parents
Developing Empathy and Compassion
in our Children and Ourselves
In this workshop, parents will learn ways to communicate with their children and teens that invites conversation rather than shutting it down. Developed from Kalie’s training in Rosenberg’s Non-Violent Communication combined with her favourite, timeless book, How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk, parents will be given opportunities to playfully approach their real-life parenting nightmares. Using role-play and collaborative problem-solving techniques, learn through laughter as you meaningfully connect with other parents and their stories. Take home active-listening and communication skills that could not only improve your parent-child relationship, but many relationships in your life!
Invite Kalie for an evening presentation at your child’s school or in your home with your favourite group of moms or dads or both! Contact Kalie for more information or to book a workshop.
The Power of Play
Take 2 - the ultimate do-over strategy
Research has shown that a decrease in unstructured play over the past few generations has led to an increase in attention deficits, learning challenges, anxiety, stress, and depression in elementary school-aged children. Then the pandemic hit! And children were robbed of the opportunity to develop social skills and meaningful play with peers.
Join Kalie Rae in an interactive workshop addressing the importance of child-directed play in relation to social, emotional, and cognitive development. Learn how play is also crucial in brain development, and has been linked to more successful outcomes in adult life.
Play helps children develop resilience, empathy, creativity, social skills, and practice conflict management. Play is how children learn, problem-solve, and work out the worries of their daily lives.
Reconnect to your playful side, or if play was not a part of your upbringing, discover ways to engage in creative play with your child. Balloons and puppets will be provided!
Just like filming movies in Hollywood, we often don’t get the scene right the first time around. This workshop teaches participants how to be a Hollywood director in their own home. Borne out of Kalie’s natural theatrical bent when raising her own child, Kalie has developed a step-by-step approach that teaches healthy communication, self-reflection, naming feelings, being accountable, brainstorming solutions and having fun in the process.
Kalie will walk you through each step in this playful approach that bypasses disciplinary measures or time-outs and de-escalates a situation by injecting humour and 3-2-1 ACTION!
Understanding that every behaviour sends a message, it’s our job as parents to decode that message and offer our child a chance to make better choices when expressing their needs.
